Ningbo Port and Jiaxing Port has taken another steady step on the way of win-win cooperation and integrated development. Recently, Ningbo Port Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Xinhu Group held the signing ceremony for the cooperative project of Jiaxing Zhapu Phase I & II Wharf in Ningbo City. Bayin Chaolu, Mao Guanglie, Wang Yong, etc., the leaders of Ningbo City, as well as Chen Derong, Li Weining, Qiu Dongyao, etc., the leaders of Jiaxing City, attended the signing ceremony.
Jiaxing Zhapu Port Area is located in the northern beach of Hangzhou Bay and it is an important joint connecting Hangjiahu Plain with South Jiangsu. The Phase I & II Wharf in Zhapu Port has built 6 open sea berths and preliminarily formed the annual handling capacity of 0.2 million TEUs and 10 million tons of bulk cargo. It is the main public wharf of Jiaxing Port and it completed the cargo handling capacity of 9.45 million tons and 36600 TEUs in 2007. In March this year, Ningbo Port and Zhapu Port successfully started the cooperation between branch lines. The signing of this cooperative project marked the beginning of holding operation upon Phase I & II Wharf of Zhapu Port by Ningbo Port Co., Ltd. through stock acquisition.
After successful cooperation of this project, Ningbo Port Co., Ltd. will focus on the development of grand bridge economy, build the grand port brand, take the comprehensive advantages of management, technology, business channels, capital, etc. in Ningbo Port, optimize the Phase I & II Wharf structure of Zhapu Port, enhance the technical reform, actively develop new routes and hinterland of merchandise resources, further promote the cooperation and development of Ningbo Port and Jiaxing Port and strive for double cargo handling capacity and container throughput at Phase I & II Wharf of Zhapu Port within the following three years.
Wang Yong, the Standing Member of CPC Ningbo Municipal Committee as well as the Executive Vice Mayor, addressed the signing ceremony. He said that the cooperation and development of Ningbo Port and Jiaxing Port is an important measure for carefully implementing the strategy of “strive to develop the marine economy, speed up the construction of waterway top province” promoted by the provincial committee and government and it plays an important role in promoting the port union construction in Zhejiang Province and arranging the provincial network of container branch lines. The successful cooperation of the two ports will greatly promote the sustainable development of Zhejiang transportation industry for sure and speed up the industrial agglomeration of Hangzhou Bay economic belt. Hopefully the two parties concerned could grasp the current period of strategic opportunities for development, bring their own advantages into full play, continuously develop the cooperation channels and strengthen and expand the port logistics industry to make new and greater contribution for the economic development of the two cities and even for Zhejiang Province and Yangtze River Delta.
